Why narrow it down to just one?  Here’s a few good ones from various times.

Ancient flick I just rewatched: Remo Williams (1985)

old flick: Requiem For a Dream (2000)

      new: Prey (2022)

Movies aren’t long enough for me anymore.  I’ve gotten used to watching seasons of a story.  Now 2 hours isn’t enough.  I really loved the marvel movies though.

My favorite movie though is Dances with Wolves.  I’m sticking to that one.

Some of my favourite movies from over the years off the top of my head:

      The Big Lebowski

      Gattica

      Donny Darko

      A Scanner Darkly

      Waking Life

      Dazed and Confused

      What Dreams May Come

Finally pretty much anything by Terry Gilliam (Brazil, 12 monkeys, the Imaginarium of Dr Parnasis, Tideland, etc)

A good movie should be a like a good trip; not easy to go through but leaves you feeling deeply emotional and more connected to the world afterwards.

Yeah that’s how I think about it too. The next day if I’m still thinking about how that movie made me feel I know it’s a good movie

That or when you hear someone quote a line from a movie and instantly remember the scene, another solid sign of a good movie when they worm their way into the cultural zeitgeist.
