I am assuming I am either giving her to much water, or she is not getting enough light. The dirt (just good ole potting soil) is drying out between waterings she young hasn’t been many. Light is a SF 1000 at 30 inches , currently at 50% I think it’s the light, I don’t wanna fry them, do you guys think it be better to lower light, or raise dimmer %? I have fans on her and she is dancing in the wind.

I always have this issue and just end up adding dirt to hide my failures. 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂

What you guys think how do you stop the seedling strech.

Not enough light, I’ve got a 100w QB at 15″ on 100% power and the seedlings are fine.  I didn’t see any issues until a 450w QB was probably around 12″, so you can easily drop your light without issues to stop them from stretching.

I moved the light from 30 inches to 20 inches and turned the dimmer up to 55%. I’m keep an eye on them see what they do.

Still seems high/low intensity, have you checked the PPFD with a light meter app?

Idk if that’s good or bad though.

I guess I could add a little right in the middle of what the app suggests.

I find the recommended PPFD levels usually on the low side, I’m sitting around 300 myself to keep them from stretching but also keep in mind these apps aren’t horribly accurate as explained in another thread, I think one of Neurotic Turtles grow reports, so take it all with a grain of salt.

Yeah I will see how they look in the morning, big increase for now, if they still stretching I will increase closer to 300.

        Appreciate your knowledge. Thanks.

I always heard to water seedlings less water more often.  I don’t usually start the wet to full day cycle until I’ve transplanted.  That’s unrelated to whatever is making her stretch though.

Seedlings are definitely more prone to damping off (fusarium or pythium) which is why people suggest watering less often, especially if they’re in big pots.  I prefer to start in cell packs and transplant more times so I can keep their watering consistent from the start without worrying about over watering.

I haven’t used those cells.  I noticed it in your grow journal and thought that it was prob worth a try.  About how old are they usually when they end up needing transplanted?

I transplanted around a week but I also like to transplant earlier then most people, when the roots are just starting to circle the pot but before they start forming the mat seen in root porn.  I’m pretty lazy and would rather water my plants less often by transplanting earlier instead of having to water more often to keep big plants happy in smaller pots.  Which is also why I use SIP in flower as it’s the laziest way to grow using a fortified soil mix with a lot of aeration.  You just keep water in the res and let the plants/soil do their thing.  Although I might have to change things around if I can’t set up bokashi buckets and a worm farm as I don’t want to spend a fortune buying worm castings to keep the soil healthy.

Hmm, is your SIP function like auto pots?  Is it what you explained to me before.  Many threads back?  It basically sucks in moisture/ water as it dries out?

Yep, I’ll be using capillary mats to wick the water but there’s many variations and DiY solutions.

I just recently started the purple ghost candy from seed and had the same problem in it stretching and I had it under an hid at around 24 inches and 1000 watts at 100% so I just added dirt to it as@ pilted said and she is doing great now anyone tell me what I done wrong, cause I mostly grow clones but have gotten a few new strains of seeds.

      TIA
